“We are a young start-up company, meaning I’m not an insurance expert. I thought the insurance part would be no big deal – pick up a policy, offer it to the employees, and move along. “WRONG”.

We have 25 employees and went with a broker due to a former business relationship. I was told it didn’t matter; they all sell the same things. Getting the information compiled in a manner that I could present to the employees was a significant task. I was getting many numbers, policies, and no explanations – nothing I could present to my employees. We pushed through and had meetings at the five different locations. The representative didn’t expect to attend these meetings, but when pressed, he did. The sessions were confusing and troubling and left everyone with more questions. At one point, an employee who realized he would be without life insurance for a month questioned what to do, and the response was, “Don’t die.” Maybe that was supposed to be a joke, but it wasn’t funny and showed a lack of concern.
